Cambodia: Day 2

Started off the day with a briefing about His Child International's ministries in Cambodia. Their main focus is to provide education for the poorest children of Cambodia be it orphans or street children or village kids. They have a Mobile Drop in Centre ( MDIC) where the missionaries travel on a bus to the poor areas of Phnom Penh city and teach the kids English, bathe them, cut their nails and a art and craft session. Besides that, His Child has an orphanage, Kingdom Kids Home and a Youth Centre for orphans who are above 18yrs of age. They are also planning to build a Christian school for the poorer kids of Cambodia. Its really amazing to see God's work taking place there through this mission group. Had a tour around of their orphanage, the youth centre and the grounds of the school.

the new orphanage building..still under construction

Later in the afternoon, went on the Bus Ministry...the people working on the bus were really friendly with us...they played Uno on the bus hahaha...but their uno is kinda diff...when u put a '7' card down, everybody has to quickly stack their hand on top of the cards, the last person to do so..sadly has to take an extra card from the deck =(....Arrived at the city centre near the grand palace...the street kids were so cute!! jumping up and down a grinning when they saw the green bus approaching. As soon as the bus stopped, we got down to business....i was in charge of cutting the nails of the kids...was quite taken aback when i first saw their nails...their nails had so much dirt..it was BLACK!! but when i finished cutting their nails, they said O-kun (thank you) and put their palms together and bowed as a greeting...ahhh butters up my heart...then more kids will reach out their hands for you to cut the nails. While some of us were cutting their nails, another 2 of us would shower the kids in the shower area on the bus ( will be explained later). After cleaning them up, they will have some warm-up stretching, some praise and worship songs, then watch Tom and Jerry, have a story telling session in Khmer, English lessons ( learned father, mother, brother, sister) and an art and craft session. They will end in prayer and hop off the bus to their street homes. This was truly an experience...a good one. When I saw their families outside who just live on the streets with no roofs over their heads, everything they own is on a cart, cooking by a charcoal fire...brought tears to my eyes and made me thankful for every single thing i have at home, even for a roof to protect me from rain and shine. Thanks Dad and Mom! =)
